Alice in Wonderland Ballet
Ballet and Books
The best thing we love about reading a book is the part where our minds start picturing the book. A lot of books are made into movies or TV shows, and its always fun to see if it’s the same as what we pictured – we have been sometimes ecstatic with the choice of actors, but sometimes disappointed that the movie did not turn out how we pictured it.
But one of our favourite representation of books is ballet. That just takes it to another level, where the music and the dancing sparks a different part of your imagination. We don’t think we have ever read a book and imagined it as a ballet!
We have chosen our top 5 books that have been turned into ballets that are definitely worth seeing if you get the chance:
- Romeo and Juliet – Shakespeare
- The Nutcracker – Alexandre Dumas
- The Handmaid’s Tale – Margret Atwood
- Dracula – Bram Stoker
- Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – Lewis Carroll
If you are feeling particularly daring, you should check out the all-male swan lake by Matthew Bourne!
Here are a few books we wish they would make into ballets:
- Wuthering Heights – the tragedy is too good not to make into a ballet!
- A Picture of Dorian Grey
- An abridged Harry Potter!
Reading the book before watching a performance of it is highly recommended!
