November 29th is C.S. Lewis’ birthday, and this year it is his 120th birthday.

To celebrate him this year, we found some interesting facts about this great literary genius, whose books have enchanted and stirred imaginations for generations.

  1. C.S. stands for Clive Staples, but as a child he asked people to call him Jacksie to honour his beloved dog after it was hit by a car and died. As an adult, he disliked his name and went by the name Jack.
  2. One of his closest friends was fellow literary genius J.R.R. Tolkien.
  3. Lewis and Tolkien challenged each with a bet – Lewis would write a space novel and Tolkien would write a time travel. Lewis kept his side of the deal with The Space Trilogy, but Tolkien never finished the novel.
  4. His death was not given the proper attention it deserved as the world received the news of John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
  5. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was based on evacuated children during WW2 and Lewis actually hosted four evacuated children himself during the war.

Happy Birthday to a beloved and never forgotten writer and storyteller.

*** We have just released our new Narnian Winter candle that features the label featured above, it smell gorgeous and would make anyone drool!
